An Overheating CIP: 2024

Ways to cool the engine

Our second research report into how advisers can get the most out of their CIPs.

An Overheating CIP: 2024 - Our research findings

What this research is about

At Copia Capital, our goal is to help advice and planning firms become more successful, by de-risking their businesses and providing investment solutions that give the best possible client outcomes.

In 2022, we conducted our first research into the effectiveness of Centralised Investment Propositions (CIPs), which research shows are today used by 92% of advice firms.  Given their importance to client outcomes, this year we’ve repeated and expanded the research to see how CIPs have evolved in a typical advice firm, particularly following the introduction of Consumer Duty.

To achieve this, we commissioned insight consultancy the lang cat to conduct in-depth research into how advisers are operating their CIPs. Among other issues, the lang cat talked to more than 100 advice firms about:

  • What is the typical structure of a CIP?
  • What benefits are they seeing in running a CIP?
  • Are firms running portfolios in-house, or outsourcing?
  • What are the benefits and risks of the two approaches?
  • Where are the greatest ‘pain points’?

We believe the findings will help advisers ensure their CIP is operating effectively, delivering the best possible outcomes for their firm and its clients.
